Best Odds Guaranteed

Best Odds Guaranteed has become an essential tool for regular horse racing and greyhound punters, however more casual bettors may not be familiar with this term, so here’s a short and sweet explanation:

Some online betting sites will offer Best Odds Guaranteed (or BOG for short) on all UK and Irish racing, others will offer it on selected races and some won’t offer it at all. Put simply Best Odds Guaranteed means you if you place your bet and take the odds available at the time, if the odds of your horse then drifts and gets bigger, to the point where your horse starts the race at bigger odds than you placed your bet at earlier, your bet will be settled at the bigger starting price. Likewise if the odds of your selection shortens, then your bet will still be settled at the bigger odds which you had taken earlier. So really it’s a no-brainer. If Best Odds Guaranteed is available, always take it. Read our Best Odds Guaranteed Guide for a fuller explanation and the complete list of bookies currently offering this service.

Here’s our pick of the Best Odds Guaranteed Bookmakers:

Non Runner No Bet

“Non runner no bet” is a specific feature you’ll want to look out for if placing your Grand National bets before the day of the race. If you place your bets on the day of the race and your horse subsequently doesn’t take part, you will get your money back, however, usually with bets placed days or weeks in advance of the big race this is not the case and you would lose your stake money. This is why bookmakers run the Non Runner No Bet concession (or NRNB for short), to give their customers peace of mind that if their horse doesn’t run they will get their money back.

As we’ve said, if you are placing your Grand National bets on the day of the race then you needn’t worry about this, but if you are looking to get your bets on a few days in advance and maybe take advantage of some odds you think will shorten up, then make sure you check that your chosen bookmaker is offering NRNB, also known as Non Runner Money Back (NRMB).

    Extra each-way places available

Usually, for a Handicap race with 40 runners the “each way places” paid out would be 4 places. Therefore as another promotion and to stand out from the competition, some betting sites will offer to pay out on extra places too.

The nature of a race such as the Grand National means that most people will back two or three horses each-way to have a few shots at winning, therefore any bookie offering to pay out on 5th place as well is definitely worth your consideration.

To take this one step further you will find that some betting sites also enhance the terms of which they pay out on the “place” part of your bet from 1/5 odds to ¼ odds. Read our Each-Way Betting and Place Terms Explainer for more on this. Obviously we can all see that winning ¼ of something is better than winning 1/5 of something, therefore make sure you look out for these place terms to maximise your potential returns.

Betting sites with enhanced each-way place terms for the Grand National:

    Bet365 - Paying 5 places at 1/4 odds

Betfred – Paying 5 places at 1/5 odds

Spreadex – Paying 5 places at 1/5 odds

Getting the Best Odds on your Grand National Bet

When placing your bets on the Grand National it pays to look around and see which betting sites have the best odds for your chosen horse. You can do this by simply comparing the odds from multiple sites, however this could get messy if you are looking to back a handful of runners and each happens to be best priced at different bookies, as this could mean opening several different accounts to get all of your bets on. Another way to approach this would be to gain an understanding of betting margins and which bookmakers offer the lowest margins on horse racing. This will give you insight into which betting sites offer the better odds on a more consistent basis, and will help you maximise any returns in the long run.

    Grand National 2022 Betting

The Grand National 2025 takes places on Saturday 12th April, at 4.00pm. You can watch it live on ITV.

The Current Favourite to win the Grand National 2025 is the Willie Mullins trained, 2024 winner, "I Am Maximus", best priced at 16/1 with bet365.

Over the last 30 years the favourite or joint favourite has won the Grand National on 7 occasions (23.33% of the time).

This depends on which horse you want to back. However, for a more general answer, to get the best odds you want to bet with a bookmaker that has low margins on Horse Racing (taking less profit for themselves and paying more out to punters). The best bookies for this would be bet365 and Betfred.
